For Veterans Everywhere

In honor of veteran Chuck Baker and his group of fellow veterans, we launched the Table of Honor initiative to create more opportunities for veterans to connect with each other over a meal. We’d love to hear from you.

How it all started.

We received a letter from a veteran recently telling us about how, for years, a group of 5 veterans representing all five branches of the military, and serving at different times, has been meeting for breakfast at a diner in Los Altos, California. These veterans, including 101 year-old WWII pilot Chuck Baker, joke that the main thing they have in common is SPAM®, but their shared experience of personal sacrifice and sense of honor shows a deeper bond.

Given COVID-19 restrictions, we’ll be launching the Table of Honor program at the earliest date it’s safe to do so. Please sign up if you’d like to participate!

The Table of Honor initiative is encouraging restaurants to create dedicated times and table space for military veterans to gather and talk.

Hormel Foods
Given Hormel Foods longstanding commitment to the military, we decided to surprise Chuck Baker and his fellow vets, using their breakfasts as an example, by creating special opportunities for more veterans around the country to connect and share their common bond over a meal.
We were just getting ready to launch the effort when COVID-19 began closing restaurants. As soon as restaurants are open and people are allowed to dine together again, our plan is to look for restaurants willing to set aside a table one day per week to allow for veterans to come together and talk.
We are calling it Table of Honor in honor of our 5 distinguished veterans. We hope that the Table of Honor will give other veterans the opportunity to connect, just as these veterans have.
